Modern designs have been the big winners in interior design trends according to a Pinterest pin poll by credit comparison site money.co.uk.
Money’s survey was based on more than 850,000 Pins on the social media platform Pinterest.
He found that ultra-chic modern decor was the easy winner in kitchens with 284,528 pins versus 242,309 who favored traditional design, 236,753 who pinned “cottage” and 228,900 who went for “rustic.”
The survey added, “Modern design and decor celebrates the fusion of natural materials, neutral or earthy tones, and monochrome colors that promote functionality as well as beauty. Unsurprisingly, pins showcasing the modern design style are proving to be the most popular among those redecorating their kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms, arguably the busiest spaces in a 21st century home. This modern philosophy creates the perfect recipe for a clutter-free cooking zone, with 284,528 kitchen-specific boards dedicated to the modern theme on Pinterest.
In terms of interior design in general, “industrial” led with 683,480, followed by modern with 478,608 and “modern farm” with 420,232.
But when it comes to bathroom designs, the roles have been reversed, with rustic at the top of the table at 252,014, followed by modern at 235,010, “eclectic” at 225,900, and Scandinavian at 183,5832.
According to the survey: “The bathroom is the perfect space to unwind with a hot tub and some relaxing candles and scents after a long day. The warm atmosphere demonstrated in the rustic design, through its use of reclaimed wood, galvanized metal, rough stone and cast iron, combine perfectly to achieve this natural look.
“These less polished materials will give any room an immediate character, and our data proves that the rustic style is extremely coveted when it comes to a bathroom makeover with 252,014 Pinterest boards.”
